A Fortiori – La Spina | Nebbiolo Umbria IGP Rosso
A Fortiori is an Umbrian red wine made from 100% Nebbiolo, produced in the heart of Umbria from a grape variety that is rare in the region but historically present on its hills.
This Nebbiolo Umbria IGP Rosso was born from a project aimed at recovering old vineyards and from the desire of the La Spina winery to revive a winemaking tradition dating back to the period of the Italian Unification.
The result is an elegant, deep, and terroir-driven wine: an Umbrian interpretation of one of Italy’s noblest grape varieties.
The Wine
A Fortiori Nebbiolo Umbria IGP stands out for its elegance and complexity.
The aromatic profile expresses the typical characteristics of Nebbiolo, with refined and layered aromas that evolve beautifully over time.
On the palate it is structured yet balanced, with elegant tannins and vibrant freshness leading to a long and persistent finish.
A red wine that tells the story of Nebbiolo cultivated in Umbria, interpreted with precision and deep respect for the territory.
A Rare Nebbiolo in Umbria
Nebbiolo in Umbria has a unique history.
It was introduced to the region by officers of the Kingdom of Savoy during the period of Italian Unification, with the aim of enriching the local viticultural heritage.
By the end of the 19th century, this noble grape was already cultivated on the lands owned by the ancestors of the La Spina family.
Thanks to careful vineyard recovery and a deeper understanding of winemaking, A Fortiori was created — a wine that highlights the character of Umbrian Nebbiolo with an elegant and terroir-focused style.
Territory and Vineyards
The grapes used to produce A Fortiori La Spina come from vineyards trained using the low Guyot system, chosen to ensure:
The vineyards grow on calcareous clay-loam soils, which are ideal for expressing both elegance and structure in the wine.
Vinification and Aging
A Fortiori Nebbiolo Umbria IGP is produced following a traditional winemaking process.
After destemming and crushing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 26–28°C (79–82°F).
Once alcoholic fermentation is complete and malolactic fermentation has finished, the wine is transferred to oak barrels of different capacities.
Here it matures for about one year, developing structure and complexity.
After bottling, the wine rests for at least 12 months in bottle before being released.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its structure and elegance, A Fortiori Nebbiolo Umbria pairs beautifully with rich and flavorful dishes.
