Northia Tenuta Ponziani

The vineyard located at 550 meters above sea level with southeastern exposure thanks to a careful selection of bunches and low yields per hectare gives life to this red wine

Merlot, an international grape variety now proven throughout Italy acquires an unparalleled elegance in the Ponziani estate vineyards with mineral-rich soils and the unique microclimate of the Umbrian territory.

Harvesting takes place around the middle of October, when the grapes have reached a slight over-ripeness, and only at this time, with the correct phenolic maturity, do the grapes enter the cellar and after destemming go into alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature.

This is followed by post-fermentation maceration of the grapes until racking; malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel, and at its end, at the first racking, the wine takes up new residence in Tonneau where it remains for about 12 months. After bottling it rests a minimum of 3 months in bottle where it can certainly preserve itself for a decade. Precisely to keep its being drastically unaltered, Northia does not undergo filtration.

It has a deep red color with purplish highlights, in the glass it is silky and full-bodied. The nose is broad, with few rotations of the glass result aromas dominated by black berry fruits, blueberry, blackberry, but also raspberry, vanilla, with a subtle thread of cinnamon. It proves elegant and warm with tannins well present, but amply polished.
