This, like other similar grape varieties, has a significant anthocyanin load and was for this reason often used in blends to give color to wine. The vine is used for winemaking, although only 2 hectares planted with vines were surveyed in 2010. Today Abrusco is a species considered close to extinction, given good account that there should be less than 6 hectares of it cultivated. Because of the above, finding it vinified in purity is not an easy thing.
